When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. Prov 29:2 KJV
Today's reading centers on the righteous being in authority which is a joyous thing to the masses. But before considering authority as a place of headship or leadership, let's carefully note the nitty gritty of authority as explained in the gospel. The merciful centurion in Matt 8:9 needing healing for his "common" servant asked the Lord's presence then later changed his mind not bother Him but to speak His word only and everything would be alright. He said,
"For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it."
Now, authority is a form of power, dominion earned by life. The centurion being a soldier who'd learned to obey authority saw no reason any soldier under him would withstand or refute his authority. The centurion by his life of obedience, consistently, became an authority whose life could not be resisted or put out!
On the other hand, when people love their "humble" selves they don't obey instructions, even properly constituted authorities. They end on the wicked side of God. And when such persons eventually find their way up, to places of authority, to sitting above others, their subjects the masses automatically begin to pray, pray, mourn, cry, weep, wail and spend their entire productive lives praying to God.
