ENTERING YOUR REST 4
...WEARY AND HEAVY LADEN
"Come to me, all you people who are very weary of trying to obey all the many laws that your religious teachers tell you to obey. I will enable you to quit trying to obey all those laws. Let me help you carry those loads, just like two oxen who have a yoke on their necks help each other pull a heavy load. It will not be difficult for you to do the things that I ask you to do for me. Because I am gentle and humble, accept what I teach about what God wants you to do. And as a result, you will quit worrying about obeying all the religious laws, and your spirits will be at peace." Matt 11:28-30 T4T
For everyone who truly desires God, His presence and move among humans has the Lord spoken these words, "Come to me!" To everybody trying their best to please God yet are unable to meet His good expectation - they go about giving, sacrificing, worshipping, even praising Him, still, God is never praised in their hearts, has God Himself sent His kind words, "Go to Jesus!"
It can be really worrying and tiring, wearying and wearing trying to meet certain prerequisites, demands of God, still everything's fruitless - they're neither met nor improved. These efforts now seem endless that you're kept on one spot in a rigmarole. Not just that, it also seems as if you're coerced. It is quite pathetic trying to appease Him who's not even listening. You read and meditate, study and pray everyday, still your sins are with you like sinews.
Noah the righteous man was in that state when God found him. The Living Bible says, "Noah tried always to conduct his affairs according to God's will" - Gen 6:10. He could have died "trying" if not the grace of God. Cornelius also had similar issues, a devout who prayed thrice daily and gave much alms to the needy. Had the grace of God not appear to him, Acts 10:1-6, he would have died unnoticed. Apostle Peter had to be rushed in to explain the man Jesus to him more personally.
Everytime you bow or kneel to pray, again appears your shortcoming, the same fault you tried erasing all your life smells out like rotting gangrene. You have done everything ever thought of to please God, at least, to gain His favour, still He has taken notice of none. King Saul made such mistake when faced with a heavy task, a war, and thought he hadn't sought God's favour by sacrifice, he stepped into the priest's office and defiled himself. 1Sam 13:6-12
Sometimes, it's the thought of working for God that overwhelms you, the activism, the running around and sweating. But honestly, these may be unnecessary burdens that has made you heavy laden. The work of God is summarized by Jesus as "believe on Him who's sent!" Jn 6:28-29. The Lord taught that by believing Him, you're already working for God.
Now, if the same sin keeps falling you to the ground and has kept you fallen in spite of all spiritual interventions that you're feeling bound or somewhat in bondage, my friend, you need rest!
As if those were not enough, you've also had to borne burdens of uncalled offerings and unwarranted sacrifices, heavily laden with special offerings and demands thinking that God loves "shareful" givers and that soon, He'd notice you for deeper love. Still, you have no head way. You need rest! You took risks praying morning, afternoon, night, kept vigils just for God to see you but nothing happened, my good friend, you need full rest!
Bro, maybe you're not aware that sacrifices and offerings don't appease God but a broken spirit and repentant heart, Ps 51:16-17. All through the scriptures, there was nowhere King David offered sacrifices for sins, for his own sins. Even before he was chosen and anointed as king, all his brothers who were homely and had everything working for them went through ablutions and preparations to gain God's favour which were all waste of time and useful resources. But for the boy David, he came straight from the forest to rest. David's forest life was already pleasing to God. 1Sam 16:1-13
Sis, Jesus the Master calls today that you stop the laboring and endless effort of doing something to please God, cease the restlessness of praying, put an end to bribing God to notice you and have rest, full rest. Stop thinking God would love you more doing these things, baseless, than others. The laws on their own and diverse interpretations can also be burdensome, a heavy laden but this Last Adam called Jesus is not!! Jesus, if you come to Him, will give you rest from those needless things you do in order to attract God's favour. And it begins with you - just your heart!
Shall we pray together? Say, "Jesus the Word my Creator, I come to you today that you may take me to the Father holy for me, I bring also my tiredness, weariness that I may be delivered from ceaseless efforts of doing something to please God, I pray that you set me free from these burdens giving me rest, your own rest, in Jesus name. Amen
