FIRST COMMANDMENT WITH PROMISE

Proverbs 20:20 • Audio 5.5mins, 2.2mb
Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness. AKJV

The first incidence to today's Proverbs verse is that it's opposite of Exodus 20:12 but with same inclination and implication. "Honour thy father and thy mother that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee" is the other way of saying, "Whoso curseth his father or his mother his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness". Invariably, anyone that does not honour his father or offers his mother something else than honour is automatically cursing them.

Take note of the word "Honour", it's the command of God with a connotative meaning relative to subject love. Honour is love shown with some deference. It's actually some relative love shown involving other parties with the scale of preference. For the entire law is based on love and divided into two - love God with all your heart, and all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, the second is like first, love your neighbor in place of (as) yourself!

This means in the hierarchy of love, God comes first! This is foremost and very crucial. Any love that passes not through God to you is fake, ingenuine, some infatuations or coded hatred. In fact, such love should be disregarded simply because it'd be carnal and can never ever last. The love that last forever passes through God to others! This makes it very possible too to love your neighbor proper having loved God first!

The second category in the hierarchy of love is your neighbor, not you.

There you are - you come third! But before you go all way to lavish love on yourself in much extravagance and luxury, remember to honour duly your parents. By the virtual of their efforts and struggle and prayers over you, response and correspondence go first to them before it should come to you. Now, they're invisibly the third on the chart while you come last, having satisfied all parties. This is how love should spread wide but not wild amongst us.

Love without God is wild, harmful and unacceptable. By this has many died thinking they were loved whereas, the love given them was rehearsed and acted to deceive. Love that comes through God is incorruptible and clean, safe and holy, dependable and sure. You can bank on it!

Lastly, there's a side of today's twentieth verse you should never skip. Yeah, it's in the audio mp3! Get it downloaded, confirmed, then share to spread this news because it is the eternal gospel of our God, the everlasting Good News that was and now is and is to come!
