DAY 16, EVERY DECISION
When life is undefined or undecided, it is at the mercy of fate and lot - those lifeless things commanding great things. Prov 18:18 says, The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty. As mighty as those men are, they lack a general sense of things nor ever have a common sense. They've only grown in power but have no self-control, and so need a lot of restraint.
The analogy today is the story in Acts 1:23-26 where Judas Iscariot was replaced by a lot. Whereas, the Lord had commanded apostle Peter & Co, to wait until they received the promise of the Father - His holy Spirit. In less than ten days of waiting, Peter rather sought to do God's work by lot and elected Matthias, who never appeared again in the book of Acts of the Apostles.
Few mistakes were made during that electioneering. First, the office Judas Iscariot left was not to be occupied by an individual. It was meant for everybody, anyone handling money, for Judas was a treasurer, keeper of the purse. Second, God planned to bring up Paul, the least as the thirteenth apostle. He also fulfilled the requirements for the apostleship as listed in verses 21-22. Moreover, Jacob had thirteen children, though 12 were male children.
